JOHN BERIC APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF THE MULTOS CONSORTIUM COUNCIL

London, UK – 3rd December 2019 – The MULTOS Consortium, a group of international blue-chip organisations responsible for the promotion and development of the high-security smart card platform, announced today the appointment of John Beric to the position of Chairman of the MULTOS Consortium. John currently serves as vice president, Product Development and Innovation at Mastercard. As MULTOS Chairman, he will oversee the direction and development priorities for the MULTOS standards on behalf of the Consortium’s membership.

John succeeds Dave Meadon, the Consortium’s Chairman since 2008.The Consortium wishes to express sincere gratitude to Dave for his exemplary leadership and enormous contributions towards MULTOS, which span well beyond his 11-year tenure as the Consortium Chairman. Dave championed MULTOS from the outset and has been instrumental in the development and successful growth of MULTOS today.   

John said: “This is an exciting time for the MULTOS community and its stakeholders, and I am delighted to be elected as the new Chairman. Being one of the original contributors to the MULTOS technology over 20 years ago, I will be working within the Consortium to build on the excellent foundations and ensure the technology evolves to address significant, emerging opportunities in payments, the Internet of Things (IoT) and other industries.”

With a long and respected history within payments and secure digital technology, John has worked on the advancement of chip card solutions to banking industry requirements since 1986. Currently, John leads some of the most advanced and innovative technology developments within Mastercard and has been an active member of the MULTOS Consortium for many years. He has contributed to the impressive growth of MULTOS technology, with smart cards and secure devices reaching a shipment volume of over 1 billion in 2017 to thousands of businesses around the world. As an advocate of the underlying security within MULTOS technology, John has seen MULTOS expand beyond Banking and Identity to address the rapidly evolving IoT space and embedded devices markets, which aligns well with Mastercard’s strategy to advance trust and secure the ecosystem.
